This is a most unusual request, but I am hoping that someone
you know might
be able to give me at least a clue. First of all, I am a
local archivist and
author. You and all of your associates might be interested
in looking up my
books from the University Press of Mississippi... DIXIE BEFORE
DISNEY is
about all of the old pre-1971 Southern roadside tourist
attractions, and HI
THERE, BOYS & GIRLS! is about the local children's TV shows
of all the
different U.S. TV markets (such as Cousin Cliff, Benny Carle, etc
here in
Birmingham).
I have several future projects in the works, but most immediately
I am trying
to dig up more information on Birmingham's Burger in a Hurry
chain. In
searching the internet I found that several of your Ramsay alumni
have
mentioned that business... and from your location, I must assume
that they
are remembering the one that was near the base of Vulcan.
(There were
others, of course, including one across the street from
Birmingham Southern,
one in Roebuck, and one building that still stands... it is now
the Golden
Rule BBQ on Hwy 31 in Hoover.)
I am trying to locate anyone who worked for Burger in a Hurry or
who would
possibly have been the manager of one of their locations. I
just had the
wild thought that someone out of all your contacts might know
someone
personally who worked for the chain. I have even tried
going through the
people I know at other chains such as Jack's (I have done much
archival
research and preservation for them), but B in a H seems to have
disappeared
without leaving so much as a trace.
If you can help spread the word, I would certainly appreciate
it. I would be
glad to hear from you or anyone who cares to discuss the
matter. I can be
contacted in several different ways:
