06/22/09 13:55:40 CDT Two other fairly recent deaths of Ramsay graduates were Carleton Bryan (May '63) and Sarah Beaumont (either '61 or '62). I tried a few times to get Carleton's death posted, but they didn't get through for some reason. It was sometime within the past six months or so. Sarah's death occurred more recently--I think within the past six weeks or so. I think she lived in California. Dawn L. Gibson, May class '63 Dawn Lindsey Gibson <dgibson@vhumc.org> , 1963; Homewood, AL

06/22/09 13:45:09 CDT Barry Beckett, RHS class of May 1961, passed away on June 10 at his home in Hendersonville, TN, as a result of complications of stroke and cancer. Barry was a world-renowned keyboardist and producer and had worked with such musical greats as Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Kenny Chesney, Bob Segar, just to name a few. He helped put Muscle Shoals on the map in music. Barry and his younger sister, Carolyn Beckett (class of May '63) were also graduates of Glen Iris Grammar School. Carolyn died just a few weeks following our '63-'67 multi-class reunion in Aug. 2000. You will find many articles about Barry by googling his name. 02/12/09 03:01:44 CST My wife, Mary Jane Gilliam Seabury, class of '67, died 12/26/08 from brain cancer complications. There are several from Ramsay that she tried to contact over the years, but I cannot remember their names at this time. 11/18/08 15:33:27 CST I am sad to report the death of Billy Lawrence, who passed away recently in Fort Worth, TX. Billy was a early childhood friend as we started at McElwain together, as well as a friend to many, many classmates at Ramsay. He was a wonderful and accomplished student and athlete at McElwain and at Ramsay. He did not make it to any of our Ramsay reunions and we all wondered where in the world he was (literally--as you can see by his obituary below, his career took him all over the world). His obituary published in THe Birmingham News, follows: LAWRENCE, WILLIAM GRAYSON, JR. William Grayson Lawrence, Jr., 56, an extraordinary son, husband, and father, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Aledo United Methodist Church. Bill will lie in state noon Thursday to 9 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Bill was born May 16,1952, to William Grayson Lawrence Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Ford Lawrence in Montgomery, Alabama. He was raised in Birmingham, Ala., where it became obvious at an early age that he was a bright, creative child with a phenomenal athletic ability. Bill excelled at anything he tried, receiving many awards including Youth of the Year and Athlete of the Year, was elected to many All Star teams and was an Eagle Scout. He went to his beloved Auburn University on a full baseball scholarship and was drafted professionally by the Atlanta Braves. He chose instead to follow his other great love -- space, science and airplanes. He graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering and moved in 1975 to Fort Worth, Texas to work for the then General Dynamics. He had a long and successful career at now Lockheed Martin, traveled worldwide for the company and was recognized for excellence in engineering, strategic planning and business development. Bill received the Lockheed Martin NOVA Award and most recently served as manager of strategic studies. He was a founding father of Lockheed's 5th Generation Fighter Strategy. Bill continued to enjoy sports throughout his adult life, participating in area recreational softball, basketball, golf and his latest passion, cycling. Ever the engineer, he kept a running tab of miles he had ridden and recorded over 18,000 miles on his bicycle. Bill married Rebecca Susan Dilworth in 1984 and they were blessed with two children, Robbie and David, who were the delight of his life. Bill felt all of his professional and athletic accomplishments paled in comparison to the pride he felt for his children. He was preceded in death by his father, William Grayson Lawrence Sr. Survivors include: Wife, Becky; mother, Ruth; daughter, Robbie; son, David; and many extended family and friends. 09/10/08 16:01:48 CDT It seems I'm always the bearer of sad news. Charles (Perry) Relfe died on August 27 in Homewood. We were neighbors of the Relfe family growing up on 15th Street and 16th Avenue South. Perry's older brother, Massey (also a RHS grad), their younger sister Margaret (Berry High), their mother, Evelyn, and Perry's four sons, two daughters-in-law, and four granddaughters survive. At present there are a number of postings on Legacy.com in his guestbook. Dawn Gibson <dgibson@vhumc.org> , 1963; Homewood, AL

04/11/08 21:06:49 CDT I love Ramsay high school. I wish I had not moved and was able to graduate from here. On the city's southern border stands the school I love. 06/25/07 10:51:55 CDT I was sad to read over this past weekend in The Birmingham News of the death of January 1963 RHS graduate Lee Etta Tucker Ligon of Jasper, Georgia. 02/17/07 15:22:18 CST I really hate to ask such a stupid question, but does anyone from the class of 1986 have obit information about the nine classmates who have died? 05/22/06 15:51:39 CDT I'm sorry that I cannot supply the date, but Carol (Finley) Franklin, class of '63, died within the last few years. Carol attended Glen Iris Grammar School for all her grammar school years, and married someone whose last name was Stumbo during our senior year at Ramsay. They had two daughters, Dee and Missy. Carol's parents owned and ran the Snow's Sundries across from Triangle Park on the corner of 15th Street and 14th Avenue, S.--Dreamland now is there. 04/23/06 17:10:48 CDT I worked at a small pizza parlor in Five Points South while attending Ramsay. Several Ramsay students sort of " hug out". I remember Ted and Janice Hershey real well. Janice died soon after her graduatuion and Ted died years leter. They both lived close by. Her Father worked at P & S Apothecary in Five Points and her Mother worked, I think, at Lane Drugs. Phillip Alford, a Ramsay graduate, who had a part in the classic film, TO KILL A MOCKINBIRD, also was a frequent customer. I later worked at the Hill Grocery store in Five Points with a lot of other Ramsay students including Richard Carpenter, ED Warnick, Rayburn Moore and several others whom I just can't recall. I still recall that Janice Hershet was always smiling and I never had a cross word with her. Morgan Scoggins <ms97866@aol.com> , 1965; Snellville, Ga

I want to thank the reunion group for the picture of Jimbo and Becky that appears under the newest reunion banner (56-61 Reunion). This was the last photo taken of Jimbo before his death. We have all lost a great friend and your photo makes us remember a happier time. Bob Green <stxgolf@aol.com> , n/a; McKinney, TX

04/15/05 21:06:44 CDT I was saddened to learn of the passing of Kenny McDaniel; I only found out about it recently though this website. Kenny McDaniel was a great friend to me at Ramsay. He was working after school at Krogers or some similar grocery store, had his own car, and seemed to never run out of money. I was dating Linda Smith and he was dating Peggy Halbert. Linda and Peg were fast friends and so we ended up double double dating often, usually using Kenny's car, so that's how we met. Kenny was generous, warm, and always ready to laugh. Like many of us, he was a big fan of the Beach Boys, but without a doubt his favorite song was "Help Me Rhonda." Long after leaving Ramsay, I was lucky enough to meet up with Kenny again at the Class of '66 reunion which he attended with his wife Paula. You just never know when you say goodbye to someone that it may be for the very last time. I'm sure that everyone who ever met Kenny will miss him. http://www.legacy.com/TBO/LegacySubPage2.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonId=2164155 Eric S. Ruff <ericsruff@bellsouth.net> , 1966;

08/05/04 10:21:46 CDT This morning, with great sadness, I found the obituary of Ruth Goldstein Wikes. I am trying to get the word out as fast as possible and hope you will help pass this on to anyone that who would want to know also. She was a tireless worker for Ramsay classmates and one of those who kept us together. When I moved back to B'ham in 1985, I lived across from her parents on Chreshill Road and saw her often. Susan, Ruth's sister, was one of my sister's best friends and Ruth and I had many fond talks of Ramsay. Ruth worked with her '66 class reunion in 1996 and also with the five year effort in 2000. When Ruth retired, we interviewed her for a math position at Highlands...where I teach, but the position did not become available as the teacher decided to stay another year. I know we all extend to Ruth's family our heartfelt condolences as we all have lost a most precious soul and friend.. 07/14/04 21:20:59 CDT I just found about my friend Roger Huckaby's passing. We had some good times together growing up on the southside of Birmingham. Once we tried to fix up an old Studebaker....we didn't get far on our meager allowances plus the fact we were only 10-11 years old. The seeds of machinery got planted then.....we became lifelong gearheads. We were always bribing someone to take us the fairground racetrack to see the Allison brothers and all....even bribed my aunt to haul us up to Fultondale to see Don Garlits dragster run.....good times. Roger, you don't know how much you influenced me.....a true friend....wherever you are I'm thinking of you.....and the good times. So long buddy....
