Comments from Glen Iris Classmates

02/04/04 Sorry I missed the Reunion. BROTHER, do I remember Miss Hamil.  That lady scared the bejesus out of me.  Don't want to offend anyone, but I think she was psychotic.  Turned me off of school in general for the next few years.  Finally got my act back together in college.  You may have known me as Sanford, of Butch.  I too had Miss Korber for first grade and Miss Zuber for second.  Or was it the other way around?  If you plan another get-together, let me know. 10/05/03 I wish I had known about the Glen Iris reunion.  I graduated in 1963 and have lost touch with everybody.  I would love to hear from Brenda Simmons, Libby Massey, John or "Dude" Stewart, or any other classmates from our years there - 1955-1963. 02/22/02 Hi all, I was so surprised to find this site, actually it was recommended to me by a friend who saw my picture in the class photo. Then I saw the comments from Mike McClellan (HI MIKE, IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME!) I have such fond memories of Glen Iris, I especially remember Miss Hamil and how she drove up every day in that old black car and parked in the same spot. I was always early to school so she would get me to go up to her room and help her with preparation, getting the desks lined up, etc. God help us if anyone forgot to bring a hankerchief to class! My sister Sarah and I attended Glen Iris 1st - 8th grade. We lived on 19th ave and walked to school every day, stopping at the store to get snacks on the way home. Our family moved to Pensacola when I was 16 so I missed out on graduating from Ramsay, from Glen Iris I do remember Mike McClellan, Bob Williams, Ronnie Tisdale, MIke Moon but have not seen them since the Glen Iris days. Hopefully I can make the next reunion! Tim Delony, Glen Iris '62, tim_delony@bio-rad.com

10/24/01 Wasn't the reunion wonderful!! I just wish we could find some more of those folks that went on to John Carroll from Glen Iris. Does anyone know what happened to Maria and Joe Barranco? Walking the halls brought back so many good memories. I think everyone stood in awe when they entered Ms. Hamil's room. What a wonderful lady and what a positive influence on all of us! Let's do it again and find more of those folks next time. - Shelia Hogeland Pickett, Glen_Iris 1960

10/21/01 I enjoyed the October reunion very much. Many thanks to all who worked so hard on it. Would love to get together again. - Glen_Iris 1961 - This is a correction. I goofed on the year that I graduated from Glen Iris. I had a senior moment OKAY! - Faye Huckaby Bradford, Glen_Iris 1957, Scarletohara@earthlink.net

10/21/01 The reunion was marvelous. My congratulations to everyone ont the planning committee - the pictures were great! Although I attended Glen Iris for one semester only in the eighth grade, I have wonderful memoties of friends that will be with me forever, and being in Miss Hamil's class is an experience I treasure. I will have to add that Glen Iris hold's very precious memories for my mother, Ruth McNutt. She hasn't stopped talking about how special the reunion was and what wonderful memories she has of her Glen Iris students; you were all so dear to her. Thank you all for all that you were and are. After leaving Birmingham, mother taught at Seminole Junior High School in Pinellas Co. in Florida for 18 years - as guidance counselor then as dean - but she will always have special memories of Glen Iris and her students there! Fondest wishes to you all! Edna McNutt McWilliams - Glen_Iris Class: January of 1956, mcwillam@bellsouth.net

10/18/01 The Glen Iris Reunion was a success! Over 100 smiling faces packed into a tiny school cafeteria...giggles....old photos.....friendships renewed......new friends made......seeing the hallowed halls and classrooms .....running your fingers over the same old wood as when we were mere babies ....let's do it again! (special thanks to the newest members of the Glen gang- David and Sara Meadows) - Mike McClellan, Glen_Iris '62, mikemc@telepak.net [David actually went to Avondale.]

10/17/01 It was great touring the school and seeing so many classes represented Friday night. Jo Ann & Don Baker and I took Mr. Palmetter a check today for $1,018.01; hopefully he can use it to move the flag pole back to the sun dial. Thanks to all who participated and made it possible to give the school this money. We told him that he hasn't heard the last from the Alumni Association so look for more info later on future plans. He wanted us to tell him more about Miss Hamil. He said that people were hanging out around her room Friday night like it was some kind of shrine. :) I guess we all have fond memories of the days spent in that room. David, thanks to you too for allowing us to be part of this web site. - Charlene Hood Holmes, Glen_Iris '57, CHH422@AOL.COM

10/15/01 Wish we had done this 10 years ago, we might have seen more of our teachers. Never the less, I had a great time seeing friends I have not seen in 35-40 years. Glen Iris has not changed and I hope it never changes. I hope we can do this again and I wish all well. Jimile Shunnarah, Glen_Iris, '61, tabreez@aol.com

10/12/01 What a crowd! Major cudos to the orgainzers! David
