8/12/00 For those of you who missed the B & A
Warehouse, 1965 reunion last evening in Birmingham,
we missed each of you. The crowd was overwhelming,
the spirit of Ramsay present in every conversation,
handshake, and embrace. This, my friends, is what
makes our nation so great, we remember our past
through present day associations. I cannot express
how good it was to see each of you whom I discovered
once again last night. Jane and I thank the committee
for the work on this project and look forward to
seeing each of you tonight at The Club. Please, if
you have not submitted an e-mail address for this
reunion, do so, in order that we can know your
whereabouts and say hello to you again. Let us not
forget all of those brothers and sisters who are
deceased and missed by all this weekend. I thank the
men and women who served our armed forces and gave
their lives for our freedom and the opportunity to
attend an event such as this reunion. I fondly revere
those we spoke of last night, those who were no
longer with us in body, but shone just as bright in
spirit. God Bless. - Bill Gresham, '65, wpgresham@aol.com
8/11/00 Wish my wife and I could be at the Grand
Reunion. Have made the last three of the Class of
'66. Debbie Hobbs was so entertaining at our
twentieth that I really hate not to see her and hear
more of her soft-spoken opinions. Get Joe Goldblatt
up to sing a truly superb rendition of
"Double-Shot", but stop him after about the
fifth time, his voice begins to crack. Lots of great
memories from Ramsay! Got a good start on the rest of
my life from that place, thanks to excellent teachers
and friends. Went to Murray State University; Murray,
Ky. Degree in Ag-Business. Eight years active duty
Army (71-79); missed Vietnam, two one year tours in
Korea. Went through jump school and helicopter
training. Have been flying for almost 30 years and
still love it; almost as much as I love Sheila, my
wife of 31 years. Two grown sons, Les and Curtis, two
grandchildren. Spent five years as a corporate chief
pilot after the Army. Worked for the FAA for a year,
almost a year too long. Have been an airplane and
helicopter pilot in the Kentucky National Guard,
Tennessee Guard, and Missouri Guard. Almost 30 years
military service counting both Active and Guard.
Employed full time by the Missouri National Guard as
a civil service helicopter instructor pilot and
aviation safety officer. About five more years to go
until retirement. Hope to still fly after that and
teach my grandkids to fly. Thanks to the Army and
National Guard, I have visited a lot of different
places in the world. When you leave the United States
for more than a few weeks, you learn to appreciate
how great and wonderful our nation really is. I
salute Charlotte McCallum in her endeavors to teach
in China, Wow!. Sheila and I will retire to a small
farm at Route 1; Hazel, Ky when the time comes.
Really appreciate all the work that people have put
into setting up this website and the reunion. Best
wishes to all. George James, '66. gmjcopter@aol.com
8/10/00 Thanks David to you and everyone else that
put this together. I am really excited about seeing
so many school mates after all these years. See
everyone this weekend!-Warren "Dee" Lewis

8/08/00 Just found out about the Reunion a few
weeks ago. I am really excited, wild horses couldn't
keep me away. There are so many people that I can't
wait to see. I've just recouped from the 20 year
reunion. I am living on the beach in Jacksonville,
playing golf and surf fishing alot.I am bartending at
a country club here on the beach. Got married almost
three years ago to a wonderful woman, Laura, we got
married on the beach here in Jax. Some of you will
know that she has to be pretty neat to have put up
with me. My sisters, Janet and Karen, are going to
come with me to the reunion. They are just about as
excited as I am. Gotta go fish a little, see y'all in
a couple of days. Peace, bobby fitts. '65, fittsu@aol.com
8/08/00 In case some of you might not know, our
city's symbol, Vulcan, is currently undergoing a vast
$10 million restoration to not only return it to the
way it was when we were in high school (the exposed
balcony, WPA stonework, etc.) but to turn it into a
truly first class destination for our city. Over $7
million has currently been raised towards this goal.
Many high school class reunions have already donated
money to the restoration of Vulcan. Since we
undoubtedly had the best and closest view of Vulcan
of any high school in the city, I'd like to suggest
that, once the dust settles after this weekend, if
there is any money left over from our hard working
reunion committee's budget, that we donate it in the
name of RHS to the Vulcan Park Foundation. Just a
thought --- looking forward to seeing everyone! - Tom
Cosby, '65, tcosby@birminghamchamber.com
8/08/00 Attended Auburn University l964 - l968.
Employed with Social Security l968-present. Married
in l969 for 24 years. Husband passed away in l993.
Jonelle Lee Grantham, '64, JLG47@aol.com
8/08/00 I'm sorry I wont't be able to attend the
reunion as I found out about it too late. I no longer
have family in Birmingham and am out of the info
loop. I have lived in New Orleans for the past 30
years and have been a clinical social worker in a
psychiatric clinic for the past 13 years. I am
working on my PhD in Social Work at Tulane and will
finish soon if I can get the motivation to finish my
dissertation. I love the web site and am glad to have
e-mail address of folks I can re-connect with. Hope
everyone has a great time at the reunion. - Helen
Stavros, '65, hstavro@tulane.edu
8/7/00 I've been reading everyone's comments about
the reunion for the last couple of months and now I
am dying to get to Birmingham. The last 34 years have
been interesting; 2 husbands, I've been married to
the 2nd for 21 years; two girls, 16 and 12, I'm a
late bloomer; a masters degree in psychology from
Boston University; an off and on career as a
counselor, with my suspension record at Ramsay that
seems appropriate; and a life divided between
Roseville, CA and Bocas del Toro, Panama where we are
developing a resort on a little island called Isla
Solarte. Welles Turner visited me in Roseville a
couple of months ago and and after all these years we
still have so much fun together. I wouldn't miss my
daily e-mail conversations with Bobbi Smith who can
still make me laugh uncontrollably, and when Frances
Sharples and I talk on the phone, I feel like I'm 16
again and ready to cut chemistry to go to Burger in a
Hurry with Bunky McCoy. Looking forward to seeing you
all Friday night. Monte Evans Johnson, '66, johnsons@psyber.com
8/7/00 Would love to see everyone, but
unforfunately we are unable to attend. Love, Bill

8/6/00 One week to go! I'm looking so forward to
finding what's been going on in everyone's life the
past 30 some odd years and what their plans are for
the next 30. My last 34 years sum up like this.....4
careers; 3 college stints; 2 children; 1 husband. I
taught biology at Shades Valley high school, have
been an interior designer, designed furniture,
jewelry, ecclesiastical windows and was a commercial
landscape project director. But first and foremost,
I'm wife and mom. I graduated Auburn in 70 (biology
major). In 80 went to design school and in 94 made my
third trip to college and studied environmental
horticulture and landscape design. My son, Bogie (26
next month) is working in telecommunications here in
Atlanta. My daughter, Carrie Welles (24 next month)
is making a career of college. She has been studying
Spanish in Costa Rica and will graduate (soon I hope)
from the Uni. of North Carolina in Ashville. My
husband of 28 years, Bogue, owns a commercial real
estate company in Atlanta where we have lived 26
years. He loves golf.(I'm strictly a fair weather
golfer) Both of us love snow skiing. We are currently
building a place on the Swan River in Bigfork,
Montana where we can do both. I spend a great deal of
time working in my church.(choir, mission trips and
far too many committees) The church has provided us a
great wealth of friends and we feel quite blessed.
Best news lately.....my sister, Denise has moved back
to Atlanta from Charlotte, N.C. It's great having
family in town. Mom and Dad are in their mid 80's,
still doing well, still playing golf. Dad walks 18,
carries his own clubs and shoots his age three times
a week. My goal is to do as well when I'm 85. See you
all next weekend. - Becky Weeks Miller, '66, rebecca.miller@mindspring.com
8/6/00 Can hardly wait 5 more days to see
everyone. We're going to have such a great time! See
y'all real soon. - Roberta "Bobbi" Smith,

to seeing everyone and sharing memories and
blessings. - Michael Lamar (Mike) Williams, '65, MLWNML@aol.com
8/5/00 I think the website is outstanding and I
hope somehow it stays on. I look forward to the
reunion and the chance to catch up with everyone. -

8/03/00 I'm really sorry we found out too late
about the reunion. Since the last reunion, we moved
once more--back to our home in Orange Park, just
south of Jacksonville. Terry retired as a Navy
Commander after 20 years as a pilot and engineering
officer. After a two-week retirement, he started to
work for Norththrop Grumman Aircraft Corp. in 1987,
and has been there ever since. I have been very
blessed to be able to stay home with our kids, be
involved in their schools and activities, our church,
and our community. Scott followed us to Auburn,
graduated in Engineering, and immediately was hired
by Delta Airlines in Atlanta. He married a wonderful
young woman, Stephanie, and they have two precious
children. Suzanne graduated with High Honors from
Georgia Southern in German and Theater. She is living
in Austin, TX, and working for PC Order Computer
Company. Go figure! My faith, my family, our
Christian community, and my work with those in need
in our county are the most important things in my
life. I really wish I could see you again. God bless
you all and have a great weekend! - Terry Harris

7/31/00 Just a reminder--I will not be able to
attend. I leave this week and return in Sept. This
trip came at the absolute worst time; I was so
looking forward to this reunion. I will miss all of
you and look forward to the next one. Please tip the
cup for me one time. All The Best, Jim Powers, '65, James.Powers@carlisle.army.mil
7/30/00 We have been in the Navy for over 20
years. My husband Tom is the senior chaplain at the
Naval Station-San Diego. Through the years I have
done sewing for my family and volunteer work in my
children's schools, church, Navy Relief, and
Officers' Wives Club. Our children are grown now. Our
daughter Debra is 32 years old. She and her husband
Tony live in Maryville, TN. Our son Michael is 31
years old. He works at Am South Bank in Birmingham.
My mother Jean Skaggs and her cat Pumpkin have lived
with us for over 4 years. The loves of our lives are
our precious granddaughters, Faith (3 yrs.) and
Savannah (1 yr.). Thanks for the Ramsay updates. I
will miss being at the reunion and I hope everyone
has a great time. - Linda Skaggs Betts, '65, linda-betts@home.com
7/29/00 I'm looking forward to seeing and,
hopefully, talking to everyone.- Roy Bowen,'65, rmbowen@bellsouth.net
7/29/00 Hi, Everyone! This is indeed pertinent
info., at least to me! August 8 I'll be in L.A. and
Aug. 23 in Beijing. I have received my assignment at
Jilin University and the address of the foreign
teachers' guesthouse : Charlotte McCallum - 13 Dong
Zhong Hua Lu - Changchun, Jilin 130061 - People's
Republic of China. I'll arrive there the end of
August. It is wayyyy up north, with weather that is
definitely foreign to my southern exposure. I welcome
your letters. Postage is around the dollar figure.
Email is almost certain. Since this message comes to
you from my school address, I will be setting up
hotmail or similar. Whether snail or e , consider it
read by others before/if it gets to me. Mind your
tongue, now. Who wants to come over and visit? I'll
have a million photos and slides. I just can't haul
the scanner this summer along with everything else,
but may find a way to get some pictures out there.
See ya' - Charlotte McCallum, '66.
7/29/00 I can't wait! Ramsay High School. Man,
those were great years! Ramsay High School had the
best-looking girls in the world,(not withstanding
Patti Garrett - Woodlawn High - whom I married
30-something years ago). If my memory serves me, I
seem to remember that many of you spent alot of time
drinking P.B.R.'s, listening to the Ramblers, going
to lead-outs and other blow-outs, and generally
raising #!*+. I believe that some of you also got
fake I.D.'s produced with names like Donald Fuller
with the express purpose of purchasing alcohol. You
even rented apartments and skipped school and were
forced to leave these apartments one step ahead of
the local militia. I really can't believe that many
of you engaged in these activites and still live to
tell of it. Personally, I never cared much for those
activities. I taught Special Education for 27 years,
coached football(runner-up state champions class 3-A
in 1989) at West Limestone High School and drove a
school bus before retiring in 1997. I have been an
elected official since that time. I had no opposition
this campaign. Kind of scary, ain't it! - Pee-Wee

7/24/00 Looking forward to seeing everyone. Don't
know if we can stay for Saturday night - maybe for a
little while, but we will be there Friday night. I
wrote my life history for the website, but lost it
when I got disconnected. So I'll save it for the
reunion.Check will be mailed tomorrow.- Frances

7/19/00 [Comment on the tune on the deceased

remember those that have left us for a better place!-

7/19/00 You guys are doing a great job and we are
looking forward to the weekend in B'ham. Haven't been
there since 1971. One change for me, I'm not certain
if I put it down on my registration or not. I am
listed in both '64 & '65. I actually finished
with summer school in '64 and graduated Jan. '65,
will probably attend the '65 party. There were a few
of us in "limbo" from too much extra
curricular activities.- Jack Farris, '64&'65, Jack.Farris@chase.com
7/18/00 Cool Accomplishments: I'm fifty four years
old, have all my teeth, all of my hair, don't use
Grecian Formula, and occasionally have to use
Clearsil. Thanks a million for the time and effort
that all of you have put in to this event. Looking
forward to seeing everyone soon. - Don Harrison, '63,
donharrison@mindspring.com
7/17/00 My mother just showed me the article in
the news, over the weekend. This is a wonderful
opportunity for us all to reconnect. Randy, Jane,
Jim, David and any one else I've left out, thank you
for all your hard work, & the best web site I've
seen lately. Randy, where did you get that picture?
Look forward to seeing you all on the 11th &
12th. - Mike Lackey, '65, miklackey@aol.com
7/13/00 I left Ramsay Feb 64. Sweet Mrs. Harrison
gave me a passing grade in English for the semester.
Maybe she never noticed that I was gone. Moved to
East Tennesee. Came back and graduated @ Shades
Valley in 1965. BA @ UAB in '72. Married in '69,
divorced in '74. Met Janette Rush (Berry HS
"66)in '79 and married in 1980. Best salesjob I
have ever done. Finally found career in '82 as a
stockbroker. Same firm, Painewebber, ever since. So
there you go.. ba bing, ba boom, ba bam ...35 years
have flown by. 3 near misses..one heartattack,
chickenpox pneumonia ( worse than the heartattack )
and one near drowning. Six more lives left?? I am
looking forward to seeing old friends again. -John
Beaumont, ['64 or '65], john.beaumont@painewebber.com
7/12/00 Hey Y'all as Duke would say--one month
'till showtime so keep those cards, letters and $$
rolling in. Our story and big write-up with a picture
finally made it today's (Wed.-12th)'s community
section of The Birmingham News---hope this helps find
a few souls that haven't been found and will spur the
others of us to lose a few pounds, shampoo with
Rogaine and take a few Viagras and be there on
Aug.11&12th. David and Sara are working to make
sure the website is updated and a mailer was sent
outlast Sun. for new addresses and people found.
Please help in any way that you can to notify and
encourage others to attend. Christmas comes but once
a year and '65 reunions twice in 35 years!!--Best to
all-Randy McDonald, '65, macs_tracks@yahoo.com
7/12/00 There was a very nice write up and picture
about our reunion in this morning's paper. Randy, you
looked great! -Janette Spencer
7/12/00 Hey to my former classmates. Sorry I will
be unable to attend the reunion due to a previously
arranged business trip but I'm certain as it will
surely be a major event. After RHS, got my BS and
completed training as a Medical Technologist. Worked
at Baptist Medical Center until 1976 and left B'ham
and worked as a Medical Technologist in Troy, Al. Got
married in 1979. In 1978 went to the Centers for
Disease Control in Atlanta and received advanced
training in communicable diseases and epidemiology
and became an Infection Control Practitioner. Left
Troy, Al in 1983 to direct the infection control
program of a large hospial in the New Orleans area.
My wife hated New Orleans and eventually me also and
we divorced in 1994. Met a great lady in 1995,
Jeanette, and we got married. Took a new job in
Chattanooga in 1995 (in Infection Control at a Trauma
Center). In 1997 our daughter Sarah was born and I
have made every effort to spoil her and I have been
successful. She is the light of my life and keeps me
on my toes. New Orleans is home to my wife and second
home to me so this year an opportunty came up and I
returned here to run the Infection Control and
Employee Health program for a large hospital in New
Orleans. Reading the comments of my classmates really
took me back. Good luck to all and hopefully I can
make the next one. - Curtis Brady, '66, jcbrady@mindspring.com
7/11/00 Susan, my sister, emailed me and made me
aware of this event and website. I checked it out and
was very surprised to see all the comments from so
many old people, even my verbose OLDER brother Jack.
I haven't talked to him but I hope some of us younger
kids are invited to this event too. -Jim Whitley,

Sorry to learn so many of us are gone. God bless us
all. -lynn jordan smith, '64, lynniejj@aol.com
7/10/00 Hello, everyone! I'm delighted that there
is to be a five class reunion. At our last '66 bash,
we said that it was a shame that we never had the
opportunity to see people from other classes. Now we
have that opportunity. Thanks! I can't wait to see
everyone. Joe Goldblatt, I especially liked your
comments about our classmates who showed such courage
during those years in integrating our school. I am a
professor now and one of my areas of expertise is
children's literature. Recently, Christopher Paul
Curtis won the Newbery Award for BUD, NOT BUDDY.
However, I think he really won the award for his
first effort which was THE WATSONS GO TO
B'HAM---1963. It is a must read and a poerful
opportunity for me to share that part of American
history with my students. Thanks, Joe. See you all in
August! Debbie Hobbs, '66, dehobbs@coe.usu.edu.
7/08/00 Dickie Stanford got me all excitied about
this web page and I have enjoyed reading the emails
our classmates have sent in. Many thanks to the
committee people who have MADE this happen. Now for
my personal history: Went to Alabama 65-68 (flunked
out). Ross Copeland talked me into joining the
Marines (the Army was for sissies). Enjoyed a nice
vacation in Vietnam 68-69 (Kevin Alloway was
stationed very close to me). After returning from
vacationland, graduated from UAB and began my CPA
career. Married 69-89.Have spent the last 11 years as
Mr. Mom raising my children. Only God knows how many
mistakes I have made in this journey called life. I
have always enjoyed sports and have actively been
running the past several years. Recently , I have
started pole vaulting (Don Hogan- Give me some
pointers)before old age completely takes over. I look
forward to seeing everyone in August.-Wayne Garner,

7/06/00 Thanks to all for your kindness on the
recent loss of our son, John (27). He and another
young man were killed in a jobsite accident on June
28, 2000.- David Meadows, '65, davidmea@bellsouth.net
7/06/00 It is so much fun reading through all of
the comments. Some of you sound really old. Yes, I to
hit the 50 thing, but I fell like I am only 30 or
40.I can still remember honor study hall, I think
there were about 10 unsupervised students. I came in
to the room that day in November, and everyone was
saying President Kennedy had been killed. I couldn't
believe it and thought someone was playing a cruel
joke. I remember Bert, saying it was true. A tragic
memory from High school. I met a class mate about 20
years ago in my neighborhood. Our sons were playing
after school. I asked where she was from, B'ham, oh
me to, WHere did you go to school, Ramsay, oh me to.
When did you graduate, 1965, oh me to. Only to find
out it was Denise Weeks. Hello Denise. She moved and
so have I. It will be great seeing and meeting
graduates. I did attend the 25 year reunion and it
was fun. I did not get to stay for the evening
festivities. I hope to see you all there.-Roberta

7/06/00 Already registered / had to comment. After
Ramsay I spent 4 years in college and 4 years in the
Air Force. I have worked for Xerox Corporation since
then (1973). I married in 1968 and divorced in 1974.
I remarried in 1976 and we raised our 3 boys together
- 2 mine and 1 hers. In '97, after the boys were
grown and gone( 2 grandchildren), I transfered to the
Pensacola area where I still work for Xerox. Looking
forward to Aug 12 and seeing old friends and swapping
new stories. Tony Skaggs, '65, tony.skaggs@xrxgsn.com
7/06/00 I wanted to come to the reunion so much.
My daughter, Kim, is graduating from Montevello with
a Masters in Speech Pathology on that Friday night.
She will be moving to Nashville, Tennessee on the
Saturday. I have promised her I will help her. I am
very disappointed that I will not be able to attend.
I have been contacting many of my "old"
friends and have really enjoyed the communication. If
a book about the reunion is prepared, please let me
know. I would like to purchase it. Go RAMS, -Barbara
Shirley McDaniel, '66, bmcdaniel@simplecom.net
7/06/00 Still enjoy living in Middle Tennessee. My
daughters are in Nashville also - Emily's married and
Meredith is in college. I've been in the fast-paced
world of Information Technology for about 15 years
now. I enjoy walking, hiking and just being outdoors
doing anything, and am involved in several different
types of volunteer work and church singles events.
I'm back in Birmingham nearly every month to help my
Mom with whatever she needs. -JACKIE FAUBION YORK,

6/20/00 Well, I was really surprised to hear from
Charlie McRoberts about the Ramsay reunion, but glad
he found me. Since Jack is my nickname (John Newton
Whitley, Jr.) I guess it wasn't so easy. Thanks
Charlie. So here's my story - after graduating from
Auburn in 1969, I immediately started to work for the
IRS in Birmingham and soon went into the Marine
Reserves. I have two great boys, Brooks (22 and a
senior at Florida State) and Alex (a senior in high
school in Jax, FL). I finally found the love of my
life after a couple that didn't go so well, but
luckily only one marriage. Emily Elizabeth (Bette)
Bush, Vandy '70, and I have been married 13 years and
she is still the girl of my dreams and cute too.
(Wonder if I should show her this and get some points
- maybe so) We have moved around the Southeast
(Atlanta, Jacksonville, Columbia, SC) chasing a
senior manager career in the tax business and find
ourselves back in Atlanta, this time for good. I can
retire in 650 days, but who is counting. Bette and I
are active in our church and I have led groups in
building six Habitat for Humanity Homes in Atlanta
and really enjoy it. We are heavy into landscaping
and travel extensively. We are members of the Delta
Escape Plan so we can go to Europe for long weekends,
but have also had other interesting longer trips to
the Holy Land, Greece, Italy, China, etc. I have
enjoyed reading everyone's comments on the webpage
and its good to recall old friends and old times,
good ones in both cases. I look forward to seeing you
all in August.-Jack Whitley, '65, Jwhitley47@aol.com

6/19/00 Great job on the website, have already had
contact with several classmates. Looking forward to
seeing all in August, if I can wait that long. Looked
at the 1664 Rams Horn last night, the activity by my
goofy photo was "Bank". Funny how things
work out, as I have been in Commercial Banking for 30
years and can't think of anything else I would rather
be doing (Senior VP, Chase Manhattan Bank, San
Antonio TX). These are great times, as were those in
the 60's. Thanks Martha ! -Jack Farris, '64, jack.farris@Chase.com
6/16/00 WOW! What a Father's Day gift. My first
grandchild. Grace Suzanne Chermack, 7lb 3oz, 20.5
inches, born 06/18/00 in Scottsdale, AZ. Mom and Dad
are fine. Grandma and Grandpa are on cloud 9. I'll
have photos at the reunion to bore everyone. C YA. -

6/16/00 Jack Farris has Been Found!!!
David this just an example of the wonderful things
this Web page has done. Jack Farris happened to FIND
this web page and read my notes and contacted me. I
am going to talk with him next week and hope he will
come to the reunion.. Also note Ben Wells is living
in Atlanta and Steve Klein was last living in Dallas.
David isn't it wonderful the power of the
internet!!!! Kudos to you for a great job! Regards-

6/15/00 Can't wait for reunion! Haven't been back
to B'ham since graduating from Auburn, though Denise
(Weeks) and I remain best buds and spend hours on the
phone reminiscing and laughing. Moved a lot, but have
been in CT 20 yrs. Have two great kids, wonderful
daughter-in-law, lousy ex-husband, up&down life

6/15/00 Birmingham has been on my mind lately.
Thinking about old friends and places, took a chance
there might be a website. Great to see some of the
people I can actually remember from 35 years
ago!-Jack Farris, '64, jack.farris@chase.com
6/14/00 Very proud Mom. I've been at Family Court
for 27 years. My special interest is advocating for
learning disabled kids and their families. Special
thanks to my lifelong friends Carol, Deborah, Myra
and Charlotte, couldn't have made it through Ramsay,
or the rest of my life without them. - Kathy
Burroughs Darnell, '66, kaburroughs@learn.com
6/14/00 After being married to a doctor for 24
years, I felt like my life was incomplete. Even
though I have three wonderful children, I knew that
God had a plan for my life. I went back to school and
got my masters in Guidance and Counseling and my
Administrative Degree. I was a high school counselor
for 3 years before getting this position in October
of '99. My middle daughter, Kim, graduates from
Mountvello with a Masters in Speech Pathology on the
Saturday of the reunion. I hope to be about to make
both events. Thanks to Judy Morris Barclay for
contacting me and letting me know about the reunion.
Hope to see you then. -Barbara Shirley McDaniel, '66,

6/9/00 Hi, Everyone, Leaving for L.A. Aug 7, and
to China from there. Wheaton College in Chicago for
the month of July. Washington, D.C. with Kathy
Burroughs Darnell June 15. Currently moving OUT - out
of my classroom, out of my townhouse, out of my
storage building. Decisions - what is worth storing
and managing for 2 years of absence? After reading
the comments/noveletts it is really disappointing to
realize - I'll miss it!,-Charlotte McCallum, '66, cmccallu@hal.calc.k12.la.us

classmates.,-Mary Goodwyn Gould, '63, mary.gould@chsys.org
[Keep them comments comin'. It is you that are
making this what it is.]
6/5/00 I was glad that there is going to be
another reunion for the 64's I missed the last one
because I was attending a workshop in U of Ca
Berkeley, I taught high school Chemistry, Biology,
Physics, and Anatomy in Pell City for 25 years and 1
year in Talladega and 1 in Frankfurt Germany. I
taught night school at Jefferson State and Gadsden
Community College. before I left teaching I got
Science Teacher of the year in 1995. I also have done
some flower arranging on the side, off and on. I am
now relaxing and working around the house. I have
remained a bachelor, but I have over a 1000 children.
I am glad for this reunion, just to tell all those
people who have become part of my life that I love
them, and thanks for all the wonderful memories.

6/1/00 I have enjoyed all of the Class of 1966
reunions, and look forward to this multi-class bash
on Saturday. Of course, it will also be good to see
my classmates of '66 on the Friday night get together
also. I thought I could help with some contact info
but I see from the latest update that the people I
could help with are no longer missing. -Bryan C.

5/26/00 Do you have any list of the classmates we
lost in Viet Nam? I was looking at a pertinent
memorial website, and found one (Larry Blankenship -
I'm unsure if he graduated). I also heard that Brian
Alloway was killed in Viet Nam. Any information on
this? By the way, the website is very good!,-Bob

5/24/00 Summer (with bathingsuits ) and Class
Reunion are two specific times that seem to strike a
nervous chord with the female species. Sometimes,
even the mere mention of class reunion can seize
images of the past frozen in our minds and cause us
to re-visit all the emotions and fears that we had as
young adults.
But one of the most interesting of all re-actions
is the "Peculiar Curiosity" it seems to
activate concerning all the people we remembered as
"the popular ones", "the brilliant
ones", "the talented ones", "the
beautiful ones", "old friends" and
last, but not least, the memories of those that fall
into the category of "old flames".
Yes, class reunions can be a wonderful time for
some and a sad time for others. But the one thing for
sure that it does for all of us is bring a clear cut
dose of reality; the number of years from then to
now.........and they have been many!
I read an article the other day someone e-mailed
me. I don't know where it came from but it left me
with some profound thoughts. In the writing, the
author spoke of the "Dash" in everyone's
life. The person said when we have lived our life,
when all is said and done and the time of death
occurs the thing that most people remember us by is
our "Dash". As a matter of fact, the
"Dash" is the only real part that is
important. If we look at the obituary section of the
paper, we can understand more clearly what that dash
is. We are listed as born on a certain date - and
died on a certain date. The "Dash" in
between represents the number of years lived and what
we spent our life doing. For some, that dash can list
great accomplishments or monumental failures. It can
represent a life of extreme happiness or heavy
sorrow. A person's dash can tell of tremendous
heights reached of wealth, prestige and power or it
can read of a life of agonizing existence.
The road of my dash from high school graduation to
some 13 years later was littered with mistakes and
heartaches. At 32, underneath that heavy load, I
found myself at the foot of the cross. A very tender,
merciful, loving Father began the work of restoration
in my life. God began my transformation process to
establish right motives, goals, and principles. The
road to maturity and surrender has sometimes been
sidetracked by the things of this world and at other
times,even my own obstinancy.
But now, some 20 years later, thankfully, my dash
continues as I look forward to another Re-Union also;
the return of Jesus Christ. Folks, I would like to
encourage you to consider your "Dash"
today. And as for the Ramsay Reunion- well it appears
that it has all the makings of a terrific group of
people gathering together once again!,-Vicki Medlin

5/23/00 Hey David, I'm still geting compliments on
the web page that you are keeping up--the music and
all--- I set them straight . We had the idea and it
was so obvious the value and you have done so much
more that I anticipated. You are giving so many
people the opportunity to write and express their
feelings and emotions about our lives and times and
we can keep all this -download - I see this as a
celebration vehicle for years to come--thanks friend.

5/22/00 Choppy has ask the I send this message. He
is doing great, however, I am sadden to report that
he is completely COMPUTER ILLITERATE! Martha Kidd
Sinclair:
Greetings from Grady (Choppy) Cooley. After
college I moved to New Orleans and began my career in
the fashion business. I became the buyer of ladies
designer and Couture apparel for Godchaux's. In 1977,
I married Hill Curry, a graduate of Mountain Brook
High School. Hill and I divorced in 1979, at which
time I moved to Kansas City to work for Harzfeld's as
their Couture and European apparel buyer. In 1981,I
moved to New York to work for Bonwit-Teller. After a
year, I took a job with Barney's New York as buyer
for their designer, Couture and European boutiques.
In 1984,I moved to Italy to work for a group of
designers in Rome. I moved back to New York in 1985
and became President of Hannae Mori Haute Couture. I
split my time for the next four years between New
York and Paris. In 1989 I met my "significant
other" Tony d'Agostino, a Portfolio Manager, and
have shared a great life with him since. Also in 1989
I left the fashion world and opened an interior
design firm with Libby Mavroleon. We are still
enjoying a thriving business under the name
Mavroleon-Cooley in New York and London. I presently
divide my time between my aprtment in New York, my
house in Litchfield County, Connecticut and my
apartment in London. A lot has happened in 35 years.
How in the hell did I become 52 years old? I am
looking forward to seeing all of you in August.-

5/21/00 How much our generation has affected this
world. The 1960's...The generation that was innocent
and naive. Yet the generation that saw Vietnam...John
Kennedy...Martin Luther King and Kent State. As Mary
Goodwyn so eloquently noted, "how painful and
wonderful those days were." Perhaps the most
wonderful thing this web page has so nicely
accomplished is to put us back in touch with those
who meant so much to us in our very young lives.
Thank you Randy & Debbie McDoanld and all the
hard working committee members!
Remembering all my childhood/neighborhood friends and
acquaintances...Mary Goodwyn,thank God Mary's parents
never found out that I learned to drive on their
green Ford. Choppy, another of my best friends, and
his sweet sister Carol Cooley...his great father Mr.
C and the ever gracious Mama C. Friends from Lakeview
and Avondale. The cherry cokes, comic books and
Seventeen Magazines at Bledsoe and Arial Drug stores.
The whole neighborhood gang, Sandy Mullins, Pixie
Brown, Paul and Rose Franklin, the Thompson boys,
Johnny and Leroy, Sam Johnson, Mike Downey, Leslie
& John Clisby, the brothers Kinney, Deemer,
Hatchett, Ellen Engle, Stella & Bruce Russell,
Bruce & David Lanning, Jack Farris (where are
you?) Lucia and Sammy Threeton, the Cosby boys, Lynn
Williams and Bill and Susan Knox. In addition, all
the others I cannot recall...we are getting to that
age....How far we have come and how great to touch
base. I look forward to seeing old friends and making
new ones.
I also would like to remember my brother Neal Kidd
and all others who are no longer with us. Mary
Goodwyn's sister Cookie, John Breckendrige, Dickey
Grove, Diane Lister, Paul Franklin, Nancy
"Mokey" McDonald, Van Veenschoten, Nancy
Frick, Sherry Godwin and all the other precious
people. I would like to purpose we seriously consider
some worthwhile goal, perhaps a memorial fund to help
restore one of the most beautifully built high
schools in the Birmingham area. I was appalled to
hear of the state of dis-repair our high school had
fallen into. How wonderful so many of you became
teachers. What better way to leave our own legacy to
our children, grandchildren, and those who are no
longer with us and for what we have accomplished.
-Martha Kidd Sinclair, '65, Martha@golden-care.com
5/21/00 David, Thanks for the contact. ... I bet
we all will spend the summer exercising more than we
have in years. Thanks again, Mary Lou Ganster Muir,
'65, luluomt@aol.com
5/19/00 This really rambles, but it's late and I
don't have time to think linearly. If you are on the
fence about coming to the reunion, I strongly
encourage you to be there. I wouldn't trade anything
for the '91 and '96 gatherings of our class. Even
though I live near the Fountain of Youth, I know the
chance to get 5 classes together at once isn't going
to happen too often. I'll be there with pictures of
my first grandchild, due on the 4th of July in
Scottsdale, AZ. Life has been good to us. I have been
able to feed my family while living out my dreams in
the high performance automotive arena. You thought
that blue '64 Corvair was just a phase? Thanks to
Louis Stanton and Bob Coffman for letting me drive
their hypo cars when the Corvair just wasn't enough.
I worked my way up to an SCCA National racing license
in '82 and managed to win my share of races until the
reality of the cost of racing in terms of dollars and
family life set in around '84. I spent '66-'79 near
Atlanta after GA TECH and an MBA @ GA STATE (w/ a
minor in Underground Atlanta's Bucket Shop.) Then, we
"did" CA (Fremont, near San Jose/SFO) until
'94. Been in FL on the Space Coast ever since. I am
an independent rep for over 30 manufacturers of high
performance and accessory automotive and light
truck/SUV products. Also own a small company that
manufactures specialty suspension components for old
Datsun Z cars and 510 sedans. My wife has a dynamite
career in the kitchen cabinet industry. Two
daughters; both out of college, one married (Yes, the
pregnant one!) And, we have Luke, our black Lab.
Ya'll come. We live right on the Intra-coastal
Waterway and the boat is always ready to cruise. My
3.5 years at Ramsay as a transfer student from South
Carolina (divorced parents)were really special to me.
I was not always tracking with the class of '66
because I was way ahead in Math and other courses in
SC. I had some classes with the '63 and '64 gang and
was the only Junior in a Senior Home Room in '65.
Thanks to all of you for making the "kid"
feel welcome. I hope I get to see lots of you on
Saturday night after our '66 bash on Friday. Hey, I
keep hearing abouts Tams, etc. They were great, but
let's not forget the Swingin' Medallions. I'm pretty
sure DOUBLE SHOT was the '66 class song. Maybe I'm
predjudiced since they were from Ninety Six, SC.
(True story and a great trivia question .... until
just now.) So, Steve Stevens, George James, Bobby
Breed, Ralph Smallman, Bob Coffman, CJ Morgan, Bill
Knox, David Gillon, Tommy Grove, Billy Lipscomb,
Louis Stanton and, of course, every lovely lady ....
be there! By the way, Sandy Powers, I moved to FL
just so you could get the "came the furtherest
award.",-Joe Goldblatt, '66, goldgrp@aol.com
5/18/00 I've got to tell you how neat this all is,
especially the communication page. I have been
reading the names of so many familiar people doing
some of the most wonderful things. My very favorites
are the comments listing people and places still so
much a part of my past life. How both painful and
wonderful those days were. Looking through some old
annuals at our shiny, smiling, insecure, unsure faces
it's so neat to know of our successes and all of our
talented, gifted offspring. How to imagine the trips
we would all be taking? I'm so looking forward to
seeing those of you I knew, and meeting those I
didn't.-Mary Goodwyn Gould, '63, mary.gould@chsys.org
5/18/00 I've been aware for some time that the
bravest people I had contact with as a youth had to
be the kids who integrated Ramsay in 1963. I never
reached out to welcome them or make them feel at
ease. I sympathized with them, but I lacked the
courage to take the first step. When I signed off the
Ramsay website yesterday, AOL had just highlighted
the news of the new arrests in the 1963 B'ham Church
Bombing Murders. I knew then that I could be silent
no more. Three of those 4 girls would have been class
of '67 or '68, but they never got the chance. Think
about it. That was 2 dozen blocks away from Ramsay.
Have we reached those fellow classmates? If not, can
we try to let them know that some of us admire the
steps they took? I realize that reunions are for fun
and frolic, but we also come together to make sense
out of the past and to honor it. Regards, Joe
Goldblatt, '66, goldgrp@aol.com
5/18/00 I was reading the comments on the website
and beginning to feel old, with all the "talk of
retirement", then I went outside to get the
paper and my yard was rolled "TP'd". Now I
feel young again! I am married to Beth Ellis (Shades
Valley class of '72). Those "Valley girls"
always were a bit mysterious! We have four children
(Three daughters/1 son ges from 21 to 10). One will
be a senior at GA Southern and one starts Univ. of GA
this fall. (He will be cleaning up the yard!) A
junior in high school followed by our last middle
schooler and athlete...she is a 60 lb.
"terrorist" on the base paths, basketball
court, roller hockey and soccer field and looking for
the chance to play football and lacrosse! Class of
'65 and '66 we look forward to seeing
ya'll...especially the "old" football
players! Just watch out for Larry Weygand as he
hasn't forgotten eating the soap in the showers after
football practice! If my fingernails look dirty...it
is black shoe polish...from polishing all of your
shoes before the games! I have some time before the
gathering if you need a shine! Don't laugh ... I
wasn't by myself Len Burroughs, Charlie Prewitt, Ron
Gannett, Tim Kelly, Bobby Jones. Somehow Benny George
and Sonny Maxwell must have "paid for
protection"! It will be great to see everyone
again especially my "homeroom buds". Thanks
to David Meadows for the website and all the Reunion
Committee...we will see you in August. Is "bald
still beautiful"? If so, beauty is sneaking up
on me from behind!-Charlie McRoberts, '67, cmcroberts@mindspring.com
5/17/00 Sydney, I definitely remember the class
play of 1967. I had what generously may be called a
"supporting role "in the production. I was
the rather obnoxious next-door neighbor who wore
overalls and had a guitar or something broken over
his head. Anyway I remember getting a lot of laughs
and my share of the applause when we took our curtain
calls. I know there was a ton of work that went into
the show by a lot of people who really didn't know
what they were doing, including me. It's amazing but
somehow we were successful and you're right: we made
some money. I have no idea what this money was spent
on. Do you? As far as a program is concerned: I
believe my Mom has one in a scrap book she kept of my
"acting" career. This consisted of a bunch
of Town and Gown shows I did before high school and
some stuff at the University of Alabama later. Anyway
I'll try to get a copy of the program and have it at
the Reunion festivities. I've had very little contact
with anybody from high school for the last 30 years
and am really looking forward to attending this
Reunion. What I'm wondering is if we will be able to
recognize one another. I hope so. -Len Burroughs, lenbeco@mediaone.net
5/17/00 David, You are listing a Donna Spencer,
Class of "66 as "missing". I'm fairly
certain that I know where my baby sister is, and she
is certainly not "missing" ~ but she IS
about as far from Ramsay High School as a person can
possibly be. She is now Donna Spencer Dooley (Mrs.
Tom Dooley) of Anchorage, AK. ... Semper Fi! ~ Bill
Spencer.

5/15/00 Does anyone remember the '67 class play
"All in the Family" that Carol Boyer and I
put on, starring Philip Alford and Lisa Cheraskin?
Without a theater program or teacher, or even a
sponsor, we produced the play, and Carol and I got
out of class to wallpaper the sets with donated
wallpaper. I will not detail all the shenanigans of
some of the the cast (you know who you are), but to
their credit, everyone finally decided to learn their
lines. It was great fun and a big hit. I think we
even made some money. If anyone has the playbill for
that, let me know.-Sydney Parker Whitley, '67, sparker@chestnet.org

5/09/00 Just found out Randall [Oliver Randall Perry] had passed away. Any
details available? I went to school with Randall
several years at Glen Iris and Ramsay. Moved away in
1963 after only a short time at Ramsay. Miss
everybody especially the gang from Glen Iris---I
lived right across the street on the south side. Sure
would like to contact anyone from these schools as I
still consider them family. Thanks. With a little
encouragement I would like to attend the
reunion-sounds like the last chance [Let's
hope not!] to get any of the old gangs
together for a rehash of how great we were. Mike

5/09/00 I feel especially honored to have been
included in the invitation list for Ramsay's reunion
because although I attended Ramsay for my freshman
and sophomore years, I transfered to Shades Valley
and graduated from there in 1965. I'm very much
looking forward to seeing everyone--fat, thin, bald,
buff, tucked--whatever (as my students say). It's
probably not a surprise to those who knew me way back
in the early sixties that I've become a schoolmarm. I
got my B.A. at Brandeis in 1970 and my Ph. D. in
Linguistics from M.I.T. in 1974, got married, did a
couple of postdocs, got divorced, and now direct the
Linguistics Program at the University of Toledo. In a
week, I take off for a month in Israel, where I'll be
teaching a course on the linguistics of poetry. I
plan soon to become an online entrepreneur, doing
consulting work for businesses that need names for
themseleves or their products.-Dorothy Siegel, '65, dorothy.siegel@worldnet.att.net
5/09/00 David, thanks for all the work you are

5/04/00 Hi! Everyone! This will be a great
party!!!! Dr. (Miss) Nancy Johnson (English 11, 1966)
is a member of my church.....shouldn't we have a few
of the teachers around? I currently teach foreign
languages at a Jefferson County High School, so I may
be out of a job soon.....we'll see! I have access to
some of the names on the "wanted" list, and
will submit them promptly. Thanks for all the hard
work, Committee! Oh, the funny story is: the first
time I told one of my English classes that I went to
High School with the guy in "To Kill a
Mockingbird" ... the quick response was,
"Gregory Peck?", - Mardi Cosby Penuel, '67,

5/03/00 I am reminded of many memories from the
years 1962 - 1965 and Ramsay High School. Among those
etched in my memory are: Highland Avenue in the

5/03/00 Plan to attend both nights and looking
forward to it. I'll try to contact some of the
"missing" classmates and give them this
website, which is a great idea. Don't know how I
could help living so far away, but willing to. -Len

5/03/00 Howdy Rams! Thanks for getting things
rolling for a good time in August. I know it is hard
work and I appreciate your efforts. Please sign me up
for the reunion. My wife Susan will attend with me.
We moved last month, so I have included all my
contact info.- Joe Goldblatt, '66, Goldgrp@aol.com
5/03/00 I am so disappointed I will not be able to
attend the reunion but my older son, Greg, will be
getting married on August 12th. My husband, Sam, and
I have four wonderful children and three beautiful
grandchildren. Our oldest child, Gina G. Smith, has
been married for eight years, is a dental assistant
who has "retired" to be a full-time mommy
to two of our grandchildren, Christina and Joshua.
Our son, Greg, graduated from Auburn and is
vice-president of business services and sales for
ComplyNow in Birmingham. Our younger son, Joey,
graduated from the University of Alabama in
Birmingham, is married, and is a Deputy Sheriff with
the Jackson County Police Department in Medford,
Oregon. Joey fluently speaks and writes in five
languages and plays almost any musical instrument
known to man. Our youngest child is our daughter,
Maria Christina, who is married and the mother of our
newest grandchild, Emily Marie Hall. My husband, Sam,
is aa Economic Cost Manager for Bell South
Telecommunications. We have been married for 35 years
and have lived all over the U.S., but have been in
Birmingham since 1977.-Judy Ross Gagliano, '63, segjrg@bellsouth.net

5/01/00 David- WOW Congratulations on getting this
organized! [ed.: See the names on
the main page for the organizers.] I look
forward to seeing you in August- will register on
line,-Sydney Parker, '67, sparker@chestnet.org
5/01/00 Greetings, David, I appreciate your
constant updates and reminders. Having achieved the
goal of working ( teaching) for the same system for
25 years, I find that it was not a worthy goal. I am
leaving, not yet eligible for retirement, to teach at
a university somewhere in Asia. This will be my third
trip to that continent, and my second teaching
position. Regrettably, it seems I will be unable to
attend theis reunion. See you at the next!- Charlotte
